RADIO RECEIVERS USED BY THE TACTICAL ELECTRICAL SECURITY TEAM

(euphemistically known as 'The Radiation Team')

The RACAL 137 receiver

The RACAL 17 receiver

The EDDYSTONE 770R receiver

The EDDYSTONE 770U receiver

These sets were just some of the 'tools of our trade'.  Uniquely configured inside our 3 ton 'box body' Bedford vehicle, they enabled our team to quietly cause not a little havoc (but aided the overall [Cold] 'war effort') all over the 'Zone' from 1968 until around 1970!  {The original 'Team' was set up in the mid 1960s, being based in Maresfield Barracks & housed in a garage adjacent to the REME's LAD Workshops.  Eventually our 2nd Bedford .... the original one was 'BER'd [Beyond Economic Repair] in a crash so we refitted the 'gubbins' inside this one ourselves! ... sat quietly on the vehicle park just above Z Troop because the team members were 'on strength' of the said Troop.}  Whilst doing maintenance before and after 'jobs', the 770R set ( in conjunction with a Clark mast aerial) served us well by receiving BFBS  and certain other stations 'crystal' clearly, thereby keeping us up to date on World News as well as staying 'in tune' with the latest Pop Music sensations of the day!

PLEASE wait patiently and LISTEN to a nostalgic Radio Broadcast here!!  Enjoy it ... and Thank you.

"Of course, there was and will always be total denial [in such things] for even in the twenty-first century we live in a UK obsessed with 'official secrecy', which so often means versions of events which have a beginning, a muddle and no end."
