This badge was worn by members of the Mixed Service Organisation.  These were men, usually of Polish or of similar Eastern European origin, employed by the British Army to drive vehicles, guard military installations and otherwise perform various other menial tasks in and out of barracks.  These unfortunates/fortunates - known also as DPs (Displaced Persons) had been left on OUR side of the East/West divide at the end of the Second World War.
