"March Of The Little Leaden Soldiers" (Debroy Somers and his Band)
--- an apt musical title here, I feel, since Mr Somers was an ex Dukie! Also, on at least two occasions during the School's long history, Boys of the School have played as Tin Soldiers in such as the Royal Tournament, Earls Court and Olympia in London. Since the DYRMS is suffering/entering yet another change in its long history (as I originally wrote in July 2010) by soon becoming an Academy -- with an, as yet, unknown new title -- it seems an ideal time to extend an idea --- to YOU, the ex - Dukie reader!
You ... yes YOU! ... are invited to contribute an interesting/humorous/'dangerous'/immoral! 'story' of your own Dukie days for publication in this section, to interest, encourage (or warn!) future, young DY scholars/students ..... such as (maybe!):
your 'spell' on Saturday afternoon doing 'Jankers'/Fatigues under the auspices of the RSM or duty School Prefect --- 'cleaning' the large Asphalt square with very small brushes, experiencing running 'round the Mill' (Martin Mill) or 'round Connaught Barracks', being on the annual Brigade of Guards' Drill competition, Sunday afternoon House Fatigues, Kit Checks and Quick Uniform Changes (under the supervision of House or School Pre's), Sunday evening G & S recitals!, --- indeed any incident, maybe an idiosyncrasy or habit (of a member of Staff, perhaps?!) you feel may 'tickle the fancy' and revive the memories of and for our readers --- be it in poetry or prose. Remember that our 'time span' is so wide too [Girl/Boy entrants from 1909, 1955, 1963 and 2003 would surely 'sing' such different tunes!]
Come on then,
please dig into the 'resources' of your youthful past and send the results
on to me --- in whatever sensible format suits you and I best. Contributors' photographs would always be gladly
accepted also, of course. Please include your Name and the House(s) you
were in (-- also your House Number(s), if remembered! --) as well as detailing
your years of incarceration(!) 'Service' so that I can give appropriate credit.
Feel free to share your early 'Best Days Of Your Life' here! "I
Thank You" in anticipation!!

'WATCH THIS SPACE!'
Will YOURS be the First reminiscence upon it?!
