COLLECTING

A typical 'Vintage Swiss Chalet Musical Cigar(ette) Box' from around the 1940s & '50s.

... as the late Tommy Cooper said "I have a hobby; I collect Dust!"

Seriously though, since about 1993 I have been collecting these old wooden Swiss Chalet style music boxes (my latest acquisition being pictured above so's you can better see what I mean).  We have quite a few in our house now, making various shelves/mantelpieces look like miniature 'villages'!  They come in various shapes & sizes, many also being made in Germany and Austria - presumably, originally intended for selling to tourists as souvenirs and for export.

Similarly, I have quite a few Weather Houses --- also originally from Germany (Bavaria), Austria etc that complement the Swiss Chalets --- where the Lady ventures out carrying a parasol or flower bucket if Dry weather is expected but the poor Man, complete with umbrella & scowl appears when Rain is in the offing!  It often baffles me that we appear to be expecting a dry spell in our entrance hall yet up in the converted loft ... it looks like rain is due!  I think I have enough of these now; my weather predictions are already as varied as the Met. Office!

Finally, I have a couple of German Beer Steins as a souvenir of my six years in West Germany.  I own two Musical such Steins also ...
